The commissioning process focused on the design, installation, and operation of the mechanical systems in support of the new laboratory. We developed a commissioning plan that included but was not limited to: an overview of the commissioning process, pre-functional and functional checklists, and performance of monthly site visits. Upon completion of the pre-functional checklists we performed random spot checks to ensure that systems were ready for functional commissioning. Functional testing was then performed to verify the systems were installed and functioned as designed. Systems commissioned include: fume hood exhaust systems, VAV AHUís, energy recovery, bio-safety level 2 exhaust system, emergency generator transfer switch, fuel, fire alarm, building automation and remote metering.
